Pear, Brie, and Bacon Pizza Recipe

Sharing is caring!

Pear pizza?! Forget whatever fruits you’re used to putting on your pizzas (we’re lookin’ at you, pineapple), because we can officially crown the pear as the new king of pizza toppings.

Hear us out, here. We’re sure you heard of recipes with baked pear, poached pear or even canned pears, but pear pizza is the top recipe in our books.

The pear’s sweetness and texture is the perfect complement to traditional salty and crunchy toppings that you typically find on a pizza.

For one of our first dates, we made homemade pizza using seasonal ingredients, and we’ve continued doing that together today.  After all of those dates making pizza at home, we can easily say this was our best pizza recipe ever. It was solely because of the delicious, seasonal pears.

Full disclosure, we ate four of these pear pizzas in two days. FOUR!

This easy homemade pizza recipe is the perfect combination of texture, savory, and sweet.

To keep the base simple, we made a thin crust and a basic garlic & olive oil “sauce”.  We did this light and unassuming base because we really wanted the toppings to shine.

Our first layer of toppings that get cooked on the pizza is crispy bacon bits (this would also be great with this Beer Candied Bacon Recipe, slow-cooked caramelized onions, our thinly sliced pears, and two types of cheese: mozzarella and brie.

Y’all, the brie pairs incredibly well with the pears.

Once the pizza is fully cooked, the pizza gets even more delicious toppings.

While it’s cooling, we topped the pizza with candied pecans for texture, dressed arugula, cracked salt/pepper, and a light drizzle of honey.

This homemade pizza is the perfect mix of warm and ooey gooey, plus a crunchy texture. Serve it with wine as an appetizer at a party, or devour it as a meal.

Pear, Brie, and Bacon Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pear, thinly sliced lengthwise

  • 5 slices of bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces

  • 1 sweet onion, sliced

  • 4 tbsp olive oil, divided

  • 1 ball of pizza dough

  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 5-6 slices of brie cheese

  • 1 ½ cups of shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ¼ cup of crushed candied pecans

  • 1 cup of arugula

  • 1 tbsp honey

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Then start by caramelizing your onions. Add 2 tbsp of the olive oil to the sliced sweet onion to a saucepan and cook on medium low heat. This will take about 20-30 minutes for the onions to caramelize.

In the meantime, cut your bacon slices into one-inch pieces. Add the bacon pieces to a skillet and cook the bacon to a medium crispiness. Remember, the bacon will continue to cook in the oven on top of the pizza a little bit.

Next, roll out your pizza dough using a rolling pin and stretch it on a greased pizza pan or pizza stone. The thinner you can roll it out, the crispier your crust will be. You may even have enough dough for two pizzas as we did (whoo hoo!).

Use a fork to pierce the dough to prevent bubbles from forming.

Cook the plain dough for 10 minutes without any toppings. This will help prevent you from having a limp crust.

Drizzle 1-2 tbsps of olive oil and your minced garlic to the crust. Use the back of a spoon to evenly spread out this “sauce”.

Next, add your shredded mozzarella cheese. Top the cheese with the bacon bits, the sliced brie cheese, some of the caramelized onions, and the pear slices.

Pop the pizza back in the oven for an additional 5 minutes to get nice and melty. Depending on the thickness of your crust, it may require additional time.

Remove the pear pizza from the oven and top it with candied pecans, arugula that’s been lightly tossed in olive oil, a drizzle of sweet honey, and salt and pepper.

Cooking pizza at home can be a fun creative outlet for you to do with your friends and family or for a cheap date night with your love (you can view 100+ cheap date ideas here).

We even recommended having pizza bake-off parties where everyone creates their own recipes so everyone can sample new cool pizzas.
