What Types of Seafood to Use
This is the perfect pasta for a seafood lover. For this recipe we used plump Argentinian red shrimp.
This is a great seafood recipe to add flavor to the dish without having to spend a ton on seafood since the pasta is so filling.
The beauty of this recipe is that it is super versatile. Feel free to substitute the shrimp for other types of seafood:
- Shrimp – We think using large shrimp is the way to go so we added extra jumbo shrimp, but even small shrimp will make this pasta taste incredible.
- Bay Scallops – Add in bay scallops for an additional level of texture.
- Clams – If you want to make this pasta with clams, just add a lid to the pan until the clams open up in the sauce.
- Lump Crab Meat – For a sweet treat, stir in some lump crab meat.
- Salmon – Add in cubed salmon to substitute seafood for fish.
Side Dishes for this Seafood Pasta Recipe with White Sauce
The beauty in this pasta recipe is that it eats as an entire meal! If you are looking for a full spread consider these side dish options:
- Garlic Bread – Use our recipe on How to Roast Garlic in Olive Oil for a simply heavenly garlic butter for your bread!
- Side Salad – Add a caesar salad in order to add more veggies to your meal.
- Wine – A nice bottle of white wine makes this recipe turn into an instant date night. A dry white wine will compliment the seafood; grab a pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc or a bright Italian white blend.
Tuscan Seafood Pasta Recipe with White Sauce
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 2 Minutes
Cook Time: 18 Minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 pound shrimp (we used 36 count size) thawed, peeled and deveined
- 1 slice of extra thick bacon, diced (or pancetta)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon flour (or corn starch)
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes chopped or julienned
- 2 cups (packed) fresh baby spinach
- ½ cup fresh basil, cut into thin strips
- 2 cups of linguine pasta (½ a box)
- Sea salt & black pepper to taste
- Optional garnishes: Lemon zest, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, and parmesan cheese
Directions:
- Start by bringing a large pot of water to boil for the pasta. Add salt to the water. We boil the pasta to al dente, about 2-3 minutes less than package directions since the pasta will finish cooking in the creamy sauce.
- Cook chopped bacon on medium-high heat in a skillet or large frying pan, remove bacon with a slotted spoon, and keep the bacon bits aside. Add the butter until melted and then add the flour and cook for about a minute, stirring until smooth.
- Reduce the pan to medium heat, add the fresh garlic and cook for about 30 seconds or until fragrant.
- Stir in the heavy cream, oregano, and chopped sun-dried tomatoes. Simmer the cream sauce for 1-2 minutes. Reduce to medium-low heat if it’s bubbling too much.
- Add the raw shrimp (or fresh seafood of your choice) and cook for around 5 minutes or until they’re cooked through and the sauce is slightly thickened, taking care not to overcook them.
- Add the spinach and basil and cook for another minute.
- Add in the al dente cooked pasta and bacon bits, stir to combine.
- Season with salt & pepper as needed. Top with fresh lemon zest, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, and parmesan cheese.
- Serve in a large bowl for family-style dining or serve plated for an elevated date night.
