For dinner, head to Cascade Restaurant for a warm and cozy bowl of clam clowder.

Divided by Highway 1, the beach features dramatic cliffs, sandy stretches, rocky coves, and fascinating tide pools that become visible during low tide.
Nature lovers can spend hours wandering the shoreline searching for crabs and tiny marine creatures hiding among the rocks.
The beach also connects to the nearby Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve, where the walking paths provide an easy and scenic stroll for a slower-paced afternoon.

No visit to Pescadero is complete without stopping at Harley Farms Goat Dairy, one of the area’s most beloved local farms.
This working farm has become a local favorite thanks to its award-winning goat cheese, charming farm tours, and famously friendly goats.
The dairy is home to adorable alpine goats, which can include plenty of playful baby goats during the birthing season. Check their website for an update on the baby goat count!
Visitors can take a guided tour to learn how the cheese is made, meet the animals, and stroll through the beautiful gardens and barns.
Even people who don’t normally consider themselves “goat people” quickly fall in love with the farm’s relaxed atmosphere.
The goats are incredibly social, and it’s impossible not to smile while watching them bounce around the property.
The onsite farm store sells a variety of artisan cheeses, local produce, jams, and other delicious treats.
Their homemade cheeses are as beautiful as they are delicious. We especially love the cheeses that are wrapped in colorful wildflowers.
Pairing fresh goat cheese with local wines from nearby wineries makes for a perfect California afternoon.

Take a Hike in Pescadero
Outdoor enthusiasts will quickly discover that Pescadero is a paradise for hiking.

Ohlone Ridge Trail is a scenic hiking trail along the San Francisco Peninsula that offers sweeping views of rolling hills, oak woodlands, and the surrounding Bay Area landscape; it’s easily accessible when staying at Costanoa.
Popular with hikers, trail runners, and nature lovers, the trail provides a peaceful escape with opportunities to spot local wildlife and seasonal wildflowers.

Between redwood forests, coastal bluffs, and wildlife viewing, hiking around Pescadero offers some of the best outdoor experiences on the West Coast.
Visit Breathtaking Half Moon Bay
Although Pescadero itself offers plenty to explore, nearby Half Moon Bay makes an excellent addition to any itinerary.
Located just a short drive north, this larger coastal town provides even more dining, shopping, and outdoor activities.
Half Moon Bay is famous for its beautiful beaches, coastal trails, and excellent seafood restaurants.
We enjoyed spending the day horseback riding along the beach with Seahorse Ranch, browsing local boutiques in downtown Half Moon Bay, and having a pint with the locals at Cameron’s Pub, one of the most iconic British pubs in America.
For another foodie activity, head to Jettywave Distilling for a spirit tasting, some of which are infused with local ingredients!
They also have an incredible food truck with inspiration from South Africa.
End your day trip to Half Moon Bay by having a cocktail and a snack while watching the sunset bagpiper performance at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
The scenic drive between Pescadero and Half Moon Bay along Highway 1 is reason enough to make the trip.
Ocean cliffs, crashing waves, and rolling farmland create one of the most picturesque stretches of the Pacific Coast Highway.
Try the Artichoke Bread at Arcangeli Grocery Co.
Arcangeli Grocery Co. is an absolute institution in downtown Pescadero.
This old-school grocery store has been serving visitors and locals alike since the 19th century, and walking inside feels like stepping into a simpler era.
The store is most famous for its legendary homemade artichoke bread, which has developed an almost cult-like following across the Bay Area.
We arrived as the bread was being pulled out of the oven.
It was fresh, warm, and packed with flavor. It’s easy to understand why people happily drive hours just to grab a loaf.
Besides the famous bread, the store also offers sandwiches, baked goods, local produce, snacks, and specialty groceries.
Many visitors pick up picnic supplies here before heading to the beach.
While you’re there, everyone talks about dining at Duarte’s Tavern just down the street.
Unfortunately the tavern was closed the day we were planning on visiting, but we know that this historic restaurant is known for its famous cream of artichoke soup, along with hearty comfort food and local cuisine.
Look for Wildlife at Pigeon Point Lighthouse
Standing dramatically along the coastline south of town, Pigeon Point Lighthouse is one of the tallest lighthouses in the United States and one of the most iconic landmarks on the California coast.
Built in 1872, the lighthouse has guided ships along the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline for well over a century. I
ts towering white structure rising above the rocky shoreline creates one of the most photographed scenes in California.
Although the lighthouse tower itself is currently closed for restoration, the surrounding grounds remain open daily to visitors.
The area offers excellent ocean views, walking paths, picnic tables, and opportunities to spot wildlife offshore.
The nearby hostel attracts travelers from around the world, many of whom gather outside in the evenings to watch spectacular sunsets over the Pacific.
The coastline around Pigeon Point is also a good place to spot migrating whales, seabirds, and occasionally dolphins. During the right season, visitors can sometimes even see humpback whales breaching offshore.
During our visit we spotted lots of seals and sea lions sunbathing on the rocks.
Whether you stop for ten minutes or linger for an entire afternoon, Pigeon Point Lighthouse is easily one of the great things to see during a Pescadero road trip.
Taste Your Way Through Pie Ranch Farm Stand
Pie Ranch Farm Stand perfectly represents Pescadero’s deep agricultural roots and commitment to sustainable farming.
This working farm sits along Highway 1 and welcomes visitors looking for fresh food and a glimpse into rural coastal life.
The farm stand sells seasonal local produce, handmade baked goods, preserves, and delicious pies made with ingredients grown onsite whenever possible.
Everything tastes incredibly fresh, and the rustic setting adds to the charm.
We even took a bottle of apple shrub vinegar as a way to bring a taste of Pescadero back home to Texas with us.
Pie Ranch also hosts educational programs and community events, helping visitors learn more about sustainable agriculture and the importance of supporting local farms.
Stopping here during a Pacific Coast Highway road trip is a wonderful way to slow down and appreciate the agricultural side of the Northern California coast.
Head Inland for a Foodie Adventure
The other amazing thing about Pescadero is that if you’re looking for a little bit more of a lively atmosphere, you’re just a short drive to the rest of the San Francisco Peninsula.
This area boasts a vibrant food scene, from Michelin star dining, to authentic global cuisine. Here are some of our favorite food stops along the way:
San Mateo –
San Mateo is one of the Peninsula’s most vibrant dining destinations, filled with bustling streets, parks, and an energetic downtown atmosphere. Walking through the town they also have a sprawling mural painted on the ground as you walk between restaurants. Diners regularly line up at Gao Viet Kitchen for beautifully presented Vietnamese dishes and creative takes on pho with giant bowls of seafood or an entire short rib in the bowl, while TP Tea is a popular stop for refreshing Taiwanese-style boba drinks. San Mateo balances a delicious restaurant scene with urban excitement with laid-back California charm.
Woodside –
Woodside is a picturesque town tucked among towering redwoods and winding country roads. Visitors come to explore Filoli, the historic estate and garden famous for its grand mansion and beautifully manicured grounds. Be sure to stop at Filoili’s cafe for a picturesque date with tea service. Don’t miss dining at The Village Pub, a refined Michelin starred destination for upscale California cuisine. Every dish on the pre-fixe menu was superb.
Burlingame –
Burlingame blends elegant neighborhoods, a walkable downtown, and easy access to the San Francisco Bay shoreline trails. Food lovers flock to Twelvemonth for its stylish plant-based dining experience and bakery, while RASA is a longtime favorite for upscale Indian cuisine and inventive cocktails. In fact, they were the first Indian restaurant in America to earn a Michelin star.
Millbrae –
Millbrae is a welcoming Peninsula city best known for its diverse dining scene and excellent transit connections through BART and Caltrain. Breakfast fans make a point to visit Millbrae Pancake House, a beloved local institution famous for pancakes and hearty classic breakfasts that have drawn crowds for decades. The city’s relaxed atmosphere and strong culinary influence make it an underrated food destination on the Peninsula.
Redwood City –
Redwood City combines a lively downtown with sunny weather, historic landmarks, and one of the Peninsula’s most exciting restaurant scenes. Pamilya has become a standout local favorite for Filipino comfort food, bringing vibrant flavors and family-style hospitality to the area. From outdoor dining and community events to nearby parks and museums, Redwood City offers a dynamic mix of culture and entertainment.
South San Francisco –
South San Francisco is often called “The Industrial City,” but beyond its biotech campuses lies a thriving local food culture and charming neighborhoods. La Tapatia is a Peninsula staple known for authentic Mexican dishes, fresh tortillas, and bustling taqueria energy. It’s part market, part iconic dining spot with giant burritos.
San Bruno –
San Bruno offers a mix of suburban charm, shopping, and easy access to both San Francisco and the Peninsula. The city’s growing culinary scene includes Zorek, a modern café and bakery celebrated for Levantine-inspired pastries, specialty drinks, and stylish ambiance. Their pistachio latte may be the best coffee we’ve ever had in California.
One of the joys of visiting Pescadero is that some of the best experiences are completely unplanned.
You might discover a quiet beach overlook, stumble across a roadside farm stand, or find yourself browsing lavender and succulents at a greenhouse.
The town’s slower pace encourages visitors to relax and appreciate simple pleasures: fresh bread still warm from the oven, waves crashing against rocky cliffs, or sunsets painting the Pacific Ocean in shades of orange and pink.
Pescadero may be small, but that’s exactly what makes it special.
It’s a place where local farms still thrive, where people greet each other, where nature remains wonderfully wild and accessible, and where you can truly disconnect.
