Unlike most cities, we love seeing so much local pride, and you’ll see clear displays of locally owned stores to support.
Seafood lovers should visit Deckhand Dave’s for some of the city’s best fish tacos. It has even been ranked as Yelp’s 100 best tacos since 2022.
They work directly with fishermen, so you won’t find fresher fish tacos or Alaskan oysters in town.
The area features an outdoor bar, dining area, and other food trucks. You can even find local Alaskan oysters and champagne!
For craft spirits, head to Amalga Distillery to sample locally made gin, vodka, and whiskey inspired by Alaska ingredients.
You can buy a bottle to bring home, or have them make a craft cocktail for you to enjoy at their bar.
For a James Beard dining experience with specialty gourmet pizzas make a reservation for In Bocca Al Lupo.
They of course have traditional pizza options, but what makes them special is their seasonal specials and unique Alaskan ingredients.
They get fresh produce locally from Juneau Greens, a local hydroponic farm, and seafood directly from local fishermen.
Along the downtown waterfront, you’ll find plenty of restaurants, historic buildings, and opportunities for people and sea plane watching.
Many cruise passengers are surprised by how much they can see within a short walk of the cruise port.
If you prefer a self-guided tour, simply wander the downtown area and let curiosity lead the way.
Ride the Mount Roberts Tramway
The Mount Roberts Tramway, often called the Goldbelt Tram, departs just steps from the cruise docks.

They make a homemade reindeer sausage corn dog. It’s better than any fresh corn dog you’ll ever find at a state fair.

When the weather turns rainy in Juneau, it’s always a possibility you’ll want to head indoors to explore the city’s excellent museums.
Sealaska Heritage Institute
The Sealaska Heritage Institute offers visitors a deeper understanding of Southeast Alaska’s Indigenous communities.
Interactive exhibits explore the traditions, art, language, and history of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people that have stewarded the land since time immemorial.
You’ll find impressive displays of totem poles on the Kootéeyaa Deiyí (totem pole trail), contemporary Native artwork, a small museum, and educational programs that provide meaningful cultural context.
They also have a fantastic shop to buy authentic Indigenous-made goods and crafts.
Alaska State Museum

We know you can always get a massage on a cruise ship, but if you want to relax on land at an affordable cost then look no further than Glacier Salt Cave & Spa.
We didn’t have time for a full massage, but luckily they have walk-in availability for their salt cave relaxation room.
It’s a fantastic way to spend an hour in a warm and cozy healing room with a ton of different chairs and laydown options.
Grab a glass of champagne and a book, and let the healing Himalayan salt melt your stress away.
