As the famous Christmas song goes, “O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, how steadfast are your branches”.
With that song as our inspiration, we decided to actually use our own Christmas tree branches for a special holiday cocktail recipe, one of the featured cocktails in our round up of 35 Amazing Whiskey Christmas Drinks.
We used our new favorite everyday-drinking whiskey, Cascade Blonde American Whiskey.
Cascade Blonde American Whiskey is a new addition to our collection that’s lighter in color and much more approachable for any palate and any time of year.
We especially love it because it’s such an easy whiskey to share with friends and also use for both traditional and non-traditional whiskey cocktail recipes.
For Karen’s holiday girl’s gift exchange party, we decided to put our spin on a classic old fashioned cocktail. It uses a homemade simple syrup infused with our Christmas tree.
We also crafted a non-traditional whiskey recipe by using Cascade Blonde as the main ingredient in our winter sparkling apple cider sangria recipe. Check out the recipe!
This pine simple syrup is a great way to get some additional use from your holiday tree before you compost it.
Pick up some cute bottles and this cocktail mixer would also be an adorable gift or stocking stuffer!
Christmas Tree Pine Simple Syrup
Makes 1/2 cup
½ cup of water
½ cup light corn syrup
1 cinnamon stick
A touch of salt
In order to make the pine simple syrup, start by snipping a few branches off of the back of your tree and give them a thorough wash.
Following a proper cleaning, pulse the pine sprigs in a food processor or blender for 30 seconds to open up the aromas and juices.
Next, infuse the fresh pine in a homemade simple syrup by bringing corn syrup, water, a cinnamon stick, and a sprinkle of salt to a boil.
Once it comes to a boil, add the blended Christmas tree to the liquid mix and let it steep off of the heat, like a tea, for two hours.
After steeping is complete, use a fine mesh strainer to remove the pine branches and cinnamon stick.
Use a funnel to pour the pine simple syrup in a bottle, and you’ll have a delicious cocktail syrup that can last for around a month if you keep it refrigerated.
Christmas Tree Old Fashioned
Makes 1 cocktail
2 oz. Cascade Blonde American Whiskey
0.8 oz. Pine Simple Syrup
3 drops of bitters
Sprinkle of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of brown sugar, optional, for extra sweetness
1 small Christmas tree sprig, for garnish
To make this festive old fashioned cocktail, start by adding the cinnamon and brown sugar (if desired) to a lowball glass.
Add the simple syrup and muddle them together.
Add the Cascade Blonde plus bitters and stir.
Finally, add an ice cube and a sprig of pine for a festive and fragrant garnish.
