Horseradish mayonnaise on a steak sandwich.

Creamy, Tangy, Horseradish Mayonnaise Recipe

Sharing is caring!

Although we’ve been making this horseradish mayonnaise recipe for years, we’re finally dedicating a blog post to this irresistible sauce because it’s just too dang tasty.

We first made this horseradish mayonnaise recipe back in 2016 when we did our first on-air cooking segment with Studio 512 television station.

We were showcasing how to make our juicy, sous vide sandwich recipe and the horseradish sauce was definitely a star on the sandwich.

What we love about this horseradish mayo recipe is that it is full of flavor without being too slap-in-the-face spicy like a lot of horseradish sauces are.

Horseradish Mayonnaise ingredients.

The horseradish and yellow mustard adds some twang, while the mayo and sour cream makes it creamy without being too heavy.

It’s pure perfection.

We love to spread this on sandwiches, use it as a chip dip, or even use it as a side when we either make prime rib and other beefy cuts.

What makes this such a simple recipe is that you can just use mayo from grocery stores and it still tastes terrific.

If you’re feeling overzealous and want to make your own mayonnaise, grab some egg yolks, oil, and fresh lemon juice and have at it!

We’ll keep it simple with our 2 minute recipe instead.

What is Horseradish?

Horseradish is actually a root with a healthy surprise.

High in dietary fiber, it has been used medicinally for centuries because it’s believed it can help to reduce inflammation, improve respiratory health, and fight cell damage.

Horseradish gives a kick of heat similar to wasabi, but it’s not like the spice from a bottle of hot sauce.

You can either buy a fresh piece of horseradish root and use a vegetable peeler to remove the surface skin, then take a  microplane grater to create grated horseradish, or you can buy it in a jar at the grocery stores.

If you are buying your prepared horseradish, just be sure that you are not selecting the horseradish cream, which is already made into a sauce.

How to Store Horseradish Mayo

This easy sauce is so good, we usually go through it all within a day or two.

The best way to store this creamy horseradish sauce is to keep it refrigerated in an airtight container.

The delicious sauce will stay good for at least two weeks in the fridge.
