Where to Buy Wonton Wrappers

You can buy wonton wrappers at most local grocery stores in the refrigerated or frozen sections.

In case they don’t carry them at your neighborhood grocer, just stop by one of the Asian markets in your town.

Note: Egg roll wrappers are made specifically for egg rolls and are not the same as wonton wrappers, so be sure to read the label before putting them in your shopping basket.

Wonton skins come in both square and circle shapes.

If you buy the square wontons, cut them in half or in quarters to make wonton triangles.

We bought circular shaped wontons which created a half moon shape.

Reasons Why Air Fryer Wonton Chips are Better than Fried:

We’ve made both fried wonton chips (when we were writing our blog post on How to Fry Wonton Wrappers for Tacos) and these air fryer wonton chips and honestly, we think using an air fryer is better for a number of reasons:

Wonton wrappers in the air fryer.
  1. Faster – Although fried wonton chips only take about 20 seconds to fry in the deep fryer, since you can’t cook them all at once, it actually takes about 15 minutes to fry the same amount of wonton skins that we air fried in 4 minutes.
  2. Higher Volume – We have a decent sized smart oven with an air fryer capability so we were able to cook about 14 wonton chips all at once. If you were to do that in a saucepan you’d have them all stick together and cause a mess!
  3. Cleaner – You don’t have to deal with a big pot of oil when making wonton chips air fryer style. This makes clean up way easier!
  4. Healthier – Less oil equals less calories, so you can each twice as many.
  5. Crispier – The most important reason why we like our easy air fryer wonton chips over fried is the texture. While slightly less flaky, the wonton chips were crispier which made it to so much easier to dip! It was also easier to eat our poke nachos with our homemade Hawaiian Salmon Poke too!

What to Serve with Air Fryer Wonton Chips:

  • Dips – Substitute tortilla chips with crispy wonton chips and serve them with your favorite dips (making a homemade crab rangoon dip would be so amazing with the wonton crisps). You can also dip them in sweet and sour sauce, sweet chili sauce, and soy sauce.
  • Poke – Looking for an amazing lunch? Place the air fryer wontons under a scoop of our Hawaiian Salmon Poke Recipe, complete with pineapple, macadamia nuts, and green onions. It reminds us of one of our favorite foods from Maui!
  • Salads – Break up the air fryer wonton chips to create crispy wonton strips. These would make an amazing salad topper that would complement your favorite Asian salad dressings.
