Festive, Margarita Jello Shots

Sharing is caring!

It’s almost Cinco de Mayo time!

While we always celebrated, once we moved to Texas and were closer to such terrific Mexican influence, it seems like a bigger event.

This year Cinco de Mayo lands on a Saturday AND lands on the Kentucky Derby Race!

Talk about time to throw a party!!

We absolutely love the derby and always bet against each other. Whichever horse we pick beats the other, wins.

If you’re also a derby lover, read about our time in Louisville, Kentucky where we visited Churchill Downs.

Grab a fun derby hat, cook up some tasty tacos, and whip up these epic margarita Jello shots for your party!

We made some red, white, and blue Jello shots for Independence Day last year and now Gavin wants to turn every cocktail into Jello shot form!

You’ll also love tequila sunrise jello shots, Orange Creamsicle Jello Shots, or these adorable Pool Party Jello Shots.

Maybe one day we will start a Jello shot blog using all of the flavors of Master or Mixes to create a full Jell-O shot cocktail collection. 🙂

Margarita Jello Shots are an easy, make-ahead party dish that everyone will be raving about!

The most difficult part of the recipe is finding the plastic Jello shot containers. Usually, you can find them at your local liquor store or you can order them online here.

The decorative salt rim and key lime wedges are just too dang adorable on these Jello shots!!

Margarita Jello Shot Recipe

Makes 12-18 Jello shots, depending on the size of your shot glasses

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Master of Mixes Margarita Mix

  • 1 packet of unflavored gelatin (or use strawberry or lime for a flavor twist!)

  • 1/2 cup of clear, silver tequila

  • 1/4 cup of cold water

  • Margarita salt, for garnish

  • Key Lime juice and wedges, for garnish

To start, always soften or “bloom” the gelatin, which is sprinkling gelatin on top of cold water. It should look like applesauce and will help ensure the gelatin mixes together well.

Bring one cup of Master of Mixes margarita mix to a low boil, immediately remove from heat and add the softened gelatin to the hot mixture. Stir until well combined. Add cold tequila and cold water, stir well.

Pour into small plastic Jello shot cups.

Refrigerator for at least 4 hours. Prior to serving, dip the top of the rim into freshly squeezed lime juice and rim the top with margarita salt or sugar. Garnish with a key lime wedge.
