There is something about the extra detail that goes into a picnic that makes the day so much more enjoyable.
Whether you’re planning a day date for a special occasion or planning a unique picnic party for bachelorette parties, bridal showers, baby showers, a birthday celebration, a whimsical summer picnic will create some unforgettable moments with some of your best friends.

How to Set up the Perfect Summer Picnic

Determine a location: The ambiance of the location has a lot of do with the overall picnic experience. We chose to host the picnic at a local lakeside park, called Mueller Park, which was the perfect location. You want to ensure the park you select allows these types of picnics. If not, you may want to choose hosting your whimsical picnics in your own backyard or even pick an indoor location!
Pick an event date: Now it’s time to pick the event date and time. You may want to consider how busy the location will be at the time of your desired picnic. It’s even a good idea to have a backup date in case your outdoor picnic might encounter rain.
Plan a theme: A fun component of planning a summer picnic is choosing the theme! You will want to pick a color scheme so that your floral arrangements match the plateware, glasses, cushions, cloth napkins and tablecloths. Our outdoor picnic leveraged one of the boho themes that featured neutral colors with gold accents and natural materials.
Determine your menu: While it’s easy enough to bring a charcuterie board alongside beverages, the more creative your theme the better the experience will be. We chose to host a sweet-centric picnic for brunch. The table was outfitted with multi-level platters featuring donuts, cupcakes, and honey buns. For beverages we served cold brew coffee and orange juice.
Prepare your supplies: You can easily purchase a low profile table, cushions, umbrellas and the tableware to have on hand for future picnics. The benefit of buying a signature picnic package from a host is that they will provide all the dining items and can help with set up. All you need to do is supply the food and beverages!

What Sweets to Serve at your Whimsical Summer Picnic

We leveraged Wonder’s pre-packaged sweets to make hosting this whimsical picnic a cinch.

Wonder Powdered Mini Donuts – Super snackable mini donuts coated in a powdered topping.
Wonder Frosted Mini Donuts – Bite-sized donuts with a delicious chocolate frosting.
Creme Filled Chocolate Cupcakes – Chocolate cupcakes filled with a creme center and topped with frosting and confetti sprinkles.
Creme Filled Confetti Cakes – Festive cake loaded with colorful confetti, filled with crème, and topped with a fun glittery coating.
Wonder Pecan Cinnamon Twists – A fun swirled treat that uses real cinnamon and pecans.
Wonder Mini Loaf – A 12-slice version of its Classic White Bread,this soft and delicious bread is packed with twice the calcium as a typical slice. These small loaves of bread are perfect for jam for your picnic. Or for a savory note, top them with seasoned cream cheese and cucumber slices for fancy cucumber sandwiches.
