If you are looking for a delicious and easy Salmon recipe, then this BBQ salmon tacos recipe is perfect!
Salmon tacos are a great recipe for anyone that loves seafood and Mexican food.
Salmon is cooked with the most common BBQ spices, like cumin, paprika, and salt.
Our salmon tacos sauce can be added to add some variety to the dish, but it’s not necessary because these tacos will amaze on their own with just a squeeze of lime if that’s all you have.
Salmon tacos are traditionally served with lime and avocado, but feel free to add your favorite toppings. We love salmon tacos with slaw.
Salmon is also great when you want to make a light meal out of it by serving it over rice, vegetables, or a salad if you want to replace the tortilla.
How To BBQ Salmon for Salmon Tacos
Salmon should be cooked skin side down, this will help make sure the fish doesn’t dry out and crispy skin is delicious.
When grilling a salmon we typically grill at a medium heat so the skin doesn’t burn.
Salmon will cook much quicker with these methods and might only take five minutes total cooking time depending on the thickness of the fish filets. Usually our salmon takes about eight minutes to cook.
After grilling, halve each fillet into two pieces that are at least ½ inch thick so they can hold up better and fit perfectly in your salmon fish tacos.
If you don’t have a grill available, consider using the oven or an air fryer, like this Air fryer garlic butter salmon. Or you could even use a smoker with this Honey Glazed Smoked Salmon recipe.
How Long to BBQ Salmon
Salmon is medium when it’s slightly pink on the inside but still flakes with a fork. Salmon is well done when it becomes opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
A medium cooked salmon will take six to eight minutes to cook on the BBQ or grill outside, but only five minutes in the oven if you’re using this method inside.
If you’re looking to cook your salmon fully well done it will take around nine to twelve minutes.
Personally, we prefer to have quality salmon on the medium side.
Health Benefits of Salmon
Salmon is an excellent source of omega-three fatty acids, which can help reduce inflammation in the body.
Salmon also contains high levels of protein, vitamin D and selenium.
