They say you haven’t had a true Guinness until you’ve been to Ireland, but this Guinness Glazed Salmon recipe is a great substitute.
While we made this recipe with St. Patrick’s Day in mind, the dish is so delicious that it’s something you will want to cook all year round.

While in Ireland, we actually fell in love with the seafood even more than the guinness.
The diversity of seafood in Ireland is incredible. Oysters were so flavorful, the mussels were clean and bright, large shrimp were juicy, and the salmon was flaky and delicious.
This fish dish brings the amazing flavors of Ireland to your dinner plates.

Why this Guinness Glaze is Amazing
A few simple ingredients creates a sweet sauce that has depth of flavor that compliments the delicate flavors of seafood.
It’s a truly tantalizing option to add a layer of sweetness and interest to your fish, especially Mowi salmon.
We tried making this glaze a few times. At first we were making a brown sugar Guinness reduction sauce and it just turned out just too bitter.

Once we changed our stance and combined the brown sugar with a splash of Guinness in order to make a thick glaze, similar to our Grandma’s ham glaze from our Ham with Ham Gravy Recipe, the results were much more well balanced and less bitter.
The glaze ends up thickening by cooking on top of the salmon, which makes this recipe even faster to make!
This Guinness Glaze is amazing on salmon, but feel free to use this to add a kiss of sweetness to steaks, chicken, or even to Guinness burgers.

How to Cook Salmon
MOWI is a well-known brand of salmon that we have been cooking with for years and is almost always in our fridge. It’s so versatile and always turns out flaky and tender no matter how you choose to prepare it:
- Baked – For the easiest preparation, add the salmon topped with the glaze to a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and bake at 400 degrees F for about 12-15 minutes. This is how we also make our Sheet Pan Salmon Nicoise Salad and Crab Stuffed Salmon Recipe.
- Skillet – If you like crispy salmon skin, we like to prepare salmon in the skillet. Start by drying the salmon skin with a paper towel, and add the salmon skin side down to a cold skillet with a little bit of olive oil, then top with the glaze. Turn the burner on to medium heat and cook for 5-6 minutes until the skin is crisp, then cover the pan with a cover and cook until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
- Grilled – Cut the salmon into pieces and skewer them, just like how we make our Mediterranean Grilled Salmon Skewer Recipe or try grilling them on a wooden plank for extra flavor. Just add the Guinness glaze for salmon on the fish as it cooks.
- Air Fryer – The air fryer has become a popular method for cooking salmon too, thanks to the viral air fryer salmon bites recipe. Just preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F, season and glaze your fish, and then cook for about 6-10 minutes, depending on the thickness of your fish.
- Sous Vide – Often we choose to make sous vide salmon using our immersion circulator. Sous vide the fish in the Guinness glaze for 20 minutes at 50 degrees Celsius. The fish will cook right in the glaze for extra flavor. If you want to create some texture on the outside, feel free to sear the fish for 1-2 minutes after sous viding.

What to Serve with Guinness Glazed Salmon
This recipe is terrific because it can be served in a variety of ways. Some of our favorite options are:
- Mashed potatoes: For a true taste of Ireland, bring in the potatoes! Obviously potatoes are a key crop in Ireland, so serve this salmon on a bed of buttery mashed potatoes.
- Vegetables: Pair this Guinness glazed salmon with a veggie like Air Fryer Broccolini, roasted brussel sprouts, or of course Irish cabbage.
- Salad: For a healthy recipe option, serve this Guinness glazed salmon on a salad. We like to make a homemade dijon vinaigrette; the tanginess complements the sweetness of the salmon.
